Why say that deforestation caused emission of greenhouse gases?
I understand that trees are carbon dioxide so with fewer trees in the world is less able to process CO2, but is that what you mean? Or is there really something in the act of deforestation, which increases the net amount of CO2 in the atmosphere?
To say that deforestation results in the emission of greenhouse gases would be wrong, technically speaking. Deforestation leads to more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, but not really because greenhouse gases are emitted. If the trees are burned, however, it would be a cause of emissions of greenhouse gases.
