One more reason to protect the rainforest?
I have to do some work on three reasons why you should protect tropical forests. I have two: Due to the high biodiversity including chemicals used in life-saving drugs and alter the ecosystem of tropical forests is accelerating global warming global. Can you think of any more?
* Tropical forests act as the world's thermostat by regulating temperatures and weather patterns. * Rainforests are critical in maintaining the Earth's limited supply of drinking water and fresh water. * Tropical forests provide many important products for people: timber, coffee, cocoa and many other drugs, including those used in the treatment of cancer. Vincristine, extracted from the rainforest plant, periwinkle, is one of drugs in the world's most powerful anti-cancer. It has dramatically increased the survival rate of acute childhood leukemia since its discovery. deforestation brings with it many ugly consequences-air and water pollution, soil erosion, malaria epidemics, the release of carbon dioxide atmosphere, the eviction and destruction of indigenous Indian tribes, and loss of biodiversity through extinction of plants and animals. Less forest means less rain, less oxygen for us to breathe, and a growing threat of global warming.
