I had the idea that perhaps the clearing of tropical forests and the fact that ice is melting are perhaps related. The earth needs more trees so that more land is available. Or need more carbon dioxide that is released few. I believe that the earth will correct itself if we survive our choice. I hope you choose well. Who knows the earth is billions of years we've been at this point before. If so, we have failed. What do you think?
Interesting what ideas. 
Gaining ground: Not according to my understanding. As the ice melts, sea levels will rise, reducing the amount of land. The polar ice caps will not provide land to compensate for the loss of all parties. Carbon need dioxide: The cutting and burning of forests (with the combustion of fossil fuels) is the generation of CO2. Melting of the ice not release more CO2, deforestation does. I would not say that the earth is healed, so much as I would say that life that fits (or is already adapted to) the changes will survive others do not. If I remember correctly, over 95% of the species that have lived on Earth are extinct … that does not bode well for our chances, statistically speaking. It happened before: If you mean, the human civilization in passing before our race this year …. 4,000,000 There is no evidence to support that at this time. What I think: I think human beings join the legions of other species have died out.
