The Climate Of A Rainforest

the climate of a rainforest

Forests have a major impact on the environment. Trees help balance the balance of carbon dioxide into oxygen in the earth, by absorbing carbon dioxide environment and release oxygen. Forests regulate the temperature of the earth and rain, and prevent drought. Trees prevent velocity of stormwater runoff on the soil surface. This frustrates soil erosion and landslides, which reduces the chances of flooding. Falling leaves on the forest floor act as a source of nutrients that increases soil fertility. Forests also provide shelter against adverse environmental conditions, different lifestyles wild. On the other hand, forests are important not only ecologically, but economically as well. Firewood, trading stamp, gum, raisins, medicines and industrial products are derived from forests.

The overexploitation of forests by humans has continued unabated through the centuries. Growing urbanization has led to massive deforestation. Indiscriminate felling of trees to convert forest land into agricultural land for industrialization or mining, and overgrazing by domestic animals are contributing to the loss of this exhaustible natural resources. Various forest ecosystems are being converted into high-yielding plantations mono-cultural tree.

The lush green rainforest used to cover 14% of the Earth's surface. Now However, this value has been reduced to only 6%. It is expected that the remaining rainforests could disappear within the next fifty years.

The consequence is the loss of biodiversity. Many plant and animal species are already extinct. Others are also disappearing due to habitat loss. Apart from loss of genetic resources, it also means the loss of essential drugs and herbs including several Indian tribes. Other important effects include erosion soil, floods and desertification.

Perhaps the most serious is global warming due to greenhouse effect. Increased deforestation has led to the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and chlorofluorocarbons. This is warming the atmosphere and global temperatures are rising. The resulting climate change will affect crops, animals and forest growth. Sea level rise causing devastating floods, and at the same time, severe droughts occur frequently. Agriculture and aquaculture will be affected much. If time steps are not taken to avoid this, the entire human race is at risk.
