Brazilian savannah as important as rainforests, says Spelman
The world needs to recognise that Brazil’s savannah-like Cerrado, which is home to a third of Brazils habitats and wildlife, needs just as much protection as the country’s famous rainforests in order to increase biodiversity and combat climate change, Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman said today.

Tropical forests are being felled at an alarming rate. Whenever a road is built in a tropical jungle, usually for oil exploration, the people follow. They cut the trees of teak and other valuable woods and sell them. They poach animals and birds. Cut the patch to the farm with slash and burn. the tropical forest floor is actually extremely poor in nutrients. After two years, they have to cut more. I've seen people for gold mining. But the ways of the oil and registrars do the most damage. Major companies such as agriculture and hurt Dole.
