Can We Save The Planet?

I for one am optimistic. Certainly it will require changes in our thinking. Profit and the mighty dollar will have to take a back seat for once. Taking the right steps will however be more profitable for everyone in the long term. The technology has already been developed to take care of the pollution and ozone problems. Energy can be obtained from eco friendly sources such as wind and wave power which are already viable alternatives to fossil fuels. Proper insulation of our buildings is essential but this does lead to its own problems which I will go into later.

Why do we want to improve our use of this planet? Surely for our children and future generations . The Rain Forests are the lungs of the planet providing most of the air we need to breath. We have to stop their destruction. This is NOT difficult to achieve with a little re-distribution of wealth so that the rain forest peoples do not have to destroy the forests to survive.

Did you ever consider how much happier we would all be with better distribution of the earth’s resources. In the west we are very well off but do NOT feel that we are. I surmise that this is a result of too much choice. Choice gives freedom seems to hold true only with some limitation on choices. When presented with too many choices we tend to procrastinate and having made our choice feel it is NOT perfect and we could have done better with a different choice. This leads us to be dissatisfied and un-happy. No matter how much wealth we have this still holds true. Look how many wealthy people commit suicide. On the other hand NO choice means NO freedom. If we were to share a little of the wealth with those who have nothing their lives would improve and create happiness and having less choice we would also be happier.

The next topic is motoring. The use of limited resources in pollution generating fossil fuels can only lead to disaster. Either the planet dies or the fuels run out. Who knows which would come first? Again the answer has already been found. Electric motors are part of the answer if the batteries can ever be improved enough and the energy to charge them comes from a renewable source. The best technology so far developed in my opinion is the electric motor driven by a hydrogen engine. Hydrogen is the most plentiful element on the planet. Water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen as you know. Nothing is emitted by the hydrogen engine but water. How great is that? That means the engine produces the raw material to make more fuel so the supply would be without limits.

So the powers that be decide to become as eco friendly as possible. Where does it start? Like most things in life it begins with one person because one person CAN make a difference. That person is you! You can drive as eco friendly a car as you can afford. You can re-cycle where possible. You can insulate your home. You can stop adding toxins to your home and the greater environment. Toxins such as bleach, ammonia, aerosols and many other toxins contained in body care, soaps and other cleaning products which make your home toxic and add to the pollution of the environment.

As I mentioned earlier, properly insulated homes are virtually airtight, which means the air is changed much less, thus holding their toxins in the air and accumulating a toxic concoction which cannot be good for our health. I’m convinced many of today’s health problems are the result.
