The
Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica and the Rainforests of the World are
the Remaining Lungs and Thermostat for the Entire Planet!

Amapola,
Costa Rica, June 19th - 21st 2009 - National Geographic calls the
Osa Peninsula “the most biologically intense place on earth,”.
Our mission is to celebrate the preservation of culture and biodiversity
in the rainforest and to support existing preservation and regeneration
programs. Osa Peninsula rainforests are under severe pressures in
the years to come. RFA09 gives us a voice and the ability to communicate
about the important role the rainforest plays in controlling the
world's climate, temperature, water and air quality.
RainforestAid09
will support preventative deforestation conservation efforts through
education and will potentially fund a sustainable waste & landfill
for the Osa Peninsula. It is our intention to broadcast our preservation
message globally and we are inviting conservation leaders of the
world to share in the distribution of our message through communication,
art, music, dance and education. We encourage you to participate
in rainforest protection and re-generation awareness and realize
we are the only ones who can make a difference here on the Osa and
abroad.
RainForestAid09
will be held near the community of Amapola, Costa Rica ( Southern
Pacific ) where the U.S. military landed 22 years ago under President
Reagan’s “Roads for Peace” program. Lela Arroyo
Rodriguez still owns the land and is hosting the RainForestAid09.
It is our intention to create temporary and permanent sustainable
jobs in rural Costa Rica.
Our
“Fun” Raising efforts will benefit –
Education
–
Create a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for our children
to learn in. The future of The Osa is in hands of our children.
Through education and employment, we can reduce deforestation in
the up and coming years.
Health-
As one community, we must first reduce the amount of waste we create
as a community. Then begin searching for ways to sustainably manage
the waste we do produce. Our 5 year goal is the creation of an Osa
Wide sustainable landfill, transfer, and recycling center, providing
both full time and part time sustainable employment for Costa Ricans.
Rainforest Preservation-
Our first year’s rainforest preservation proceeds will be
managed by Alejandra Monge of The Corcovado Foundation. We will
fund existing rainforest preservation efforts as well as educate
foreigners about sustainable building practices.
Here’s
our line up so far –
Andrew Walter Allen with The Revolution Project, The ShapeShifters,
Jerry Joseph and the Jack Mormons, US Blues and , and Igni Feroque,
are just a few of the performers that are supporting RainForestAid09
during the Summer Solstice. There will be guest speakers discussing
climate change and sustainable living exhibits.
