climate change forestry
Lack of Public Awareness on Indonesias Vital Coastal Forests
Mangrove forests are among the most biologically important ecosystems on earth
Do you think that the prospect of climate change is good at solving the issue of forestry?
We all know that forests are disappearing at an alarming rate. One theory to combat this is the Kyoto Protocol, which provides tradable carbon credits for replanting forests and (if they reach an agreement a monitoring program) conservation of rain forests mature. Industrialized countries can buy these because it can be a cheaper way to reduce emissions CO2, for example by their coal plants more efficient. Do you think this in an effective approach to save nature?
Wow, 4 answers, and none of them understood or answered your question. I understand your question, but probably can not answer it. Theoretically yes, should be of great help in creating this incentive for forest conservation. It is surprising that conservatives oppose the use of market incentives to save forests, but most of them do not understand the cap and trade is designed to work with free markets, not to be used as the regulation of iron-fisted rule. My best guess is that given the sufficient incentives, cap and trade would help conservation efforts greatly. However, the big question is how to check the many systems that companies and governments could use to get your carbon credits. It is a complex issue that can not be quickly dealt with here, but suffice to say that fraud and abuse can overwhelm a cap and trade system, thereby rendering it ineffective.
