Why CSR partnerships with local government is more important than the weakness of the covenant of the COP16 in a new era of austerity

As expectations a stable solution, a minimum of all time the dust settles in the final round of climate change negotiations at COP16 (Convention on Climate Change UN climate, Cancun) with the world, it's time for CSR as professionals around the world to reflect on how they are doing "Our bit "for the cause. As a system, think about this quote for a moment:
"National governments have national policies [sustainability] but after all that is local governments that must implement these policies "(Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, 2009)
For many, local councils are essential for the delivery of sustainability as all aspects of their role the ways people live their lives – since the democratic elections to education, planning and waste collection. Adaptation to climate change too, if it is in relation to building controls defenses (energy efficiency) or flooding (emergency plans).
This feeling was reinforced recently by the European Union Committee of the Regions, which went so far as to conclude that global efforts to combat climate change are bound to fail unless local authorities are given a greater role.
Thus, Now ask yourself this question. "I am sure that my company was interested allocation and issue of scope to craft our strategy climate that fully recognizes the vital role of local governments in adaptation?
If the answer is no, then you may not be a leader in CSR.
To make matters worse, this is a terrible time for companies to set aside local government in the fight against climate change. In a new era of austerity cuts national expenditure means that investment in local adaptation efforts are being squeezed at the time that public skepticism about the soundness of science climate change increase.
CSR Wise Leaders can choose to ignore the Jamboree COP17 in late 2011 and instead of taking the opportunity to forge new alliances with local councils that are good for business flexibility and the planet.
One example, is helping to establish areas of low carbon trade planners land use, such as the Baoding, China, has helped to 20,000 local people working in the solar panel and wind turbine of production. Another example is the agreement to contribute compensation at the rate of carbon in the construction of new office buildings, such as Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, which instead of investing in the new neutral venue carbon-fund local system developers, such as the isolation of older homes that are much less efficient.
So what is holding your business again in this kind of commitment? His limited knowledge of local governments? His lack of faith in working with the directors of the council? Or is it just his approach CSR short-sighted?
To get yourself back on track, why not contact one of the 138 mayors of the world who signed a climate pact before COP16 of national leaders to show how easy it is to reach an agreement if one really wants. I am confident that progress would be welcome.
